Caring for leather handbags
Buying a leather handbag is a wise investment as the long term benefits far outway the initial costs. Leather is popular because durable and luxurious, it can last you many years. A leather bag can last much longer when cared for correctly, so we have tips to help you. Like your skin, leather is a natural product, so it needs to be cleaned and moisturised to keep it in top shape.
1. How to Handle your Bag:
Try to handle your bag with clean hands. Hand moisturisers and make up can stain your bag permanently.
2. Cleaning your Bag:
Use a brand name leather bag cleaner, even if your bag looks clean, there is always surface dirt to remove. Apply the cleaning solution using a non-dyed cloth. It is always a good idea to do a patch test first in an unnoticeable area of your bag to ensure you do not damage your bag.
3. Moisturising your Bag:
Apply a leather handbag conditioner (not on patent leather though) as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Again, use a non-dyed cloth. Conditioning your bag will help keep it from ‘cracking’.
4. How should I store my Bag?
Storing your bag in a dry, dark and airy environment is always best. Never put leather bags near water or humid areas, this might cause stains and moulds and keep in a clean area.
